There is little data from RCTs on the relative efficacy of open versus closed reduction of intracapsular fractures. Additionally, there was insufficient evidence on the efficacy of intra-operative impaction or compression of an intracapsular fracture treated by internal fixation.

Various surgical tactics, implants and ancillary manoeuvres are used in the fixation of intracapsular hip fractures to reduce the frequency of non-union and aseptic necrosis of the femoral head. The aim of this review was to compare alternative surgical approaches and ancillary techniques in internal fixation of intracapsular hip fractures in adults.
