What is this? Drug interactions need to be considered for patients with psychiatric disorders and COVID-19.
In this rapid review, the authors searched for studies of interactions between psychotropic and some drugs used for COVID-19 patients. They restricted their searches to articles published in English between 2000 and April 2020. They included 30 studies.
What was found: At the time of this review, the included studies showed that drug interactions were a major concern in the comorbidity of psychiatric disorders and COVID-19 infection, affecting expected therapeutic outcomes and toxicity.
At the time of this review, the authors concluded that psychiatric medication can be safely used in combination with COVID-19 medication with careful selection of a drug with the least possibility of interaction, or careful patient monitoring and management.
