E-learning among students in health professions during the COVID-19 pandemic

What is this? In this systematic review, the authors searched for articles about e-learning among students in the health professions during the COVID-19 pandemic. They restricted their searches to studies of students’ perceptions, acceptance, motivation, and engagement published in English between March 2020 and February 2021. The authors searched in February 2021 and identified 15 studies. This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO, number CRD42021237055.

What was found: There was a positive response to e-learning among students in the health professions. The majority of studies showed a positive perception of e-learning and a satisfactory level of acceptance. There were equal or higher levels of motivation and increased student engagement.

Implications: The authors of the review stated that the findings promoted the integration of e-learning in health science training programmes, the development of computer skills among students, and equitable access to technologies.
