Evidence Aid Newsletter: 16 October 2023

Evidence Aid newsletter: October 2023

Welcome to Evidence Aid’s October newsletter. Crises of all varieties, from war to climate change, to earthquakes and pandemics, are impacted by the actions, inactions, and decisions of those in power. Evidence Aid, to save both lives and livelihoods impacted by such crises, provides decision-makers with up-to-date, available evidence to make informed, science-based decisions during disasters.

The improvement and preparedness of one sector is especially impertinent. Health systems’ resilience, particularly in conflict or crisis-affected settings, is essential to saving lives. As such, this month’s newsletter will focus on several relevant updates and Evidence Aid summaries related to the delivery of emergency care services in crisis settings, including a recently-delivered webinar with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the impact of participation of conflict-affected communities in enhancing health system governance.

Recent Updates from Evidence Aid

How Evidence Can Improve Urban Health Emergency Preparedness

On 19 September 2023, in partnership with PAHO, Evidence Aid delivered an educational webinar that focused on the role of available evidence in supporting decision-making during health emergencies in Urban settings. Available evidence can and should be used to guide efforts that improve preparedness, health system resilience, and monitor impact and assessment of effective response measures. If you missed it, you can still watch the full webinar here.

Health systems’ resilience, particularly in conflict-affected or post-conflict settings, can save lives. September’s webinar, in combination with several recently published summaries, provide both pertinent and timely information about the delivery of health care and emergency services in periods of conflict.

Strategic Approaches to Implementing Resilient Health Systems Frameworks: Thoughts of the Advisors for the Resilient Health Systems Collection

In December 2023 (date to be confirmed) a collaborative webinar will focus on strategic approaches to the implementation of resilient health systems’ frameworks. It will focus on how evidence-based knowledge, as well as the Resilient Health Systems collection, can provide relevant information to support the preparedness, response, resilience and recovery of health systems for public gain. Please stay tuned for additional information in the coming months.
