What is this? Some patients with COVID-19 lose their sense of smell.

In this Cochrane review, the authors searched for randomized and quasi-randomized trials of treatments to prevent olfactory dysfunction associated with COVID-19. They did not restrict their searches by language and did the search on 16 December 2020. They included one study (100 participants), which was conducted in Egypt, and identified a further 6 ongoing trials.

What was found: At the time of this review, the effects of intranasal steroids on olfactory dysfunction due to COVID-19 was uncertain based on a single randomized trial.
