Evidence Aid newsletter: July 2023
Welcome to Evidence Aid’s July newsletter,
Last month we focused our attention on the alarming air quality which continues to impact millions across parts of North America and Northwest Europe, providing a series of resources and relevant summaries to support health protection. We recommend you review its information to better understand and assess the effects of poor air quality on both vulnerable communities and health systems. In this month’s newsletter, however, we turn our attention to two important events: AI for Good Global Summit and the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Evidence to Policy (E2P) Summit 2023.
Lastly, Evidence Aid has started work in partnership with PAHO to curate Phase 3 of the Resilient Health Systems evidence collection. We’ll be adding more summaries to the collection, identifying gaps, and supporting further web enhancements. To support this project, we will establish a User Group and Advisory Group. If you would like to join one of those two groups, we’d love to hear from you.
AI for Good Global Summit
On 6 & 7 July 2023, non-profits, NGOs, and governments from all over the world came together in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss the challenges and potential for success of emerging technologies in the field of health care, climate change, and humanitarian intervention, all of which exist to further strengthen and bolster the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Many of the organisations and individuals present, including the WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, spoke about the importance of action-oriented and science-based policies. The work presented at the summit echoed some of Evidence Aid’s own evidence collections, including Resilient health systems, Managing physical injuries in disasters, and Humanitarian impact of climate change. Slightly older summaries such as Telehealth interventions for older adults in rural settings, as well as more recently added ones including Tranexamic acid to reduce mortality in emergency surgery similarly recognize the role of technology in delivering emergency services to those in crisis.
WHO Global E2P Summit
The WHO Global E2P Summit, which will run from 29 to 31 August 2023, will dive deeply into the rapidly evolving field of E2P, including debates on strategies, the need for trust in science and information, networking events, and a celebration of WHO’s Evidence-informed Policy Network’s (EVIPNet) contributions to future developments. Open to all, the WHO Global E2P Summit is hoping to attract researchers, policymakers, and individuals committed to advancing evidence-based policymaking.
